Just when I start getting comfortable with the knowledge that I've gleaned on photography, something else comes from left field, smacks me on the side of the head, and rocks my world, which just teaches me that all knowledge is fluid and changes from day to day. This time it was my husband showing me this amazing type of editing called the Orton Effect, which takes certain photos (only select photos work with this) from hum-drum to WOW!!! Plant photos are especially great for this. I put a tutorial on my photo blog if you want to know how to do the this. Unfortunately, I am posting this from work (I made my hubby email it to me) so I don't have the photo exposure info. When I get home, I'll post the SOOC of this photo on this same post so you can see the difference.
As promised, here's the SOOC.

oh this is breathtaking! I love this, everything! the fence makes such a stunning background and I love the plant!!!!! I know you've listed your family blog before, but being the dunce that i am, can you re-list your family blog, I'd love to learn more about this Orton Effect!!! Thanks so much for sharing and WOW on the picture! No, scratch that, Double Wow!
Beautiful job! I've seen the Orton Effect and it also adds a certain softness (because of the blurry copy I'm assuming) that really works on some images! Can't wait to see the original!
Ha ha, my photogblog is http://lindylabunskiphotography.blogspot.com I think Rachel has it set up so that if you go over to her list of contributors (not labels) and click on people's names, it takes you to their blogspot profiles that lists their blogs.
Oh my heck you said it PERFECTLY! I think that is what I love about photography so much, just when you are starting to feel comfortable...WHAM you learn there is so much more you can learn. LOVE this picture! The vibrant green against the textured fence (I'm guessing) is stunning. Oh and I read your tutorial the other day and have been dying to try out the Orton Effect. Love that you shared such an awesome tip.

I sure do like that effect. It does make that picture better! Nice shot though and it is an interesting shot since you dont expect the branch to go in that direction usually.
