What do you all think about voting?

Okay everyone, voting is getting SO hard! Seriously.

And with each challenge, we seem to have more and more members participating.

And so I wondered what your thoughts are on voting...

Do we keep it as is?

Do we change it?

And if we change it, what are some things you would like to see?

Different categories?

I would love some feedback on this!!
(and if you are looking for the voting for the red challenge, keep on scrollin')

There should be a no voting for yourself rule.

There could be another category for the "lesser" among us (myself included)...maybe like "most improved" or something likewise encouraging.

More clarification on the categories would be nice- I think the ones we have kind of overlap.

If we like Janelle's idea we could have an Amatuer category. I saw a website the other day that seperated thier contests into amatuer vs professional (meaning-experienced enough to get paid) It was
www.iheartfaces.blogspot.com.
Maybe you could check it out for ideas.

I like the voting because it's made me push myself harder, but I can understand it can be discouraging to never get any votes or nominations. What about a "Best Take on Challenge" category and then a different one each week like "Most Improved", "Best Lighting", "Best Angle", "Most Creative", etc. Shake it up a little and keep us on our toes! : )

I originally did the best take because I thought it would allow someone who had a really great idea to get nominated, even if their picture wasn't top notch--because after all, this blog is about ideas too...

BUT, I think it has turned into 2 best pictures kind of thing, and I agree that they overlap.

Alynn, I really like your idea...I had wanted to do different categories but didn't want there to be like 18 categories each challenge. YOur way offers a great solution...

hmm....good thoughts so far!

And Teri--I like your idea too--my one concern is how do we really separate. I mean, one person may not feel like they could charge, even if you did...

Ilove the idea of having different categories every time, such as best angle, lighting, setup, etc.....really good ideas I think. ;)

I really like the categories Alynn suggested. I do think we should recognize the "most improved" person for sure. And anything else that can be thought of to recognize those with maybe not the best of equipment, but lotsa heart and effort! :)

I like the idea of an additional category each week, and I think the suggestions of technical aspects of photography are a good idea. Would you announce the additional category with the challenge or with the voting?

If it's announced with the challenge, that could be great for getting us all to think about a technical aspect of photography as we're taking our pictures. On the other hand, I'd personally almost prefer the announcement be made after so I focus on evaluating others' pictures (something I find more helpful overall). Not knowing which aspect of my photography was going to be judged would also force me to focus on more than just one technical aspect at a time.

Could we, in addition to shout-outs, nominate people for best 'x'? Like, for the red challenge I would have nominated Lindy Lou for best cat in a bowl picture?

I think there should be distinction drawn for photos straight out of camera and those that have post processing/editing done in a computer program.

I think I am going to do a poll on the sidebar...I want to suggest several of the things you guys have mentioned and see what comes back...then it isn't just ME making a decision for everyone--because I really want it to be enjoyable for each person.

Here is what i think. I think that the catagories if it gets to be to many distracts from the mission.

I think the current catagories are separate. Best take on challange is best the best idea for what the word means and doesnt necessarily mean it is a good or bad photo. It could be the worst photo and best take.

Best overall photo is kind of broad it just means it was the best with all the aspects of the photography.

I like the catagories as they are. The only issue I see is I find myself voting for the same people more often than not for best overall photo. For example Rachel H and I have a very different skill level so her pictures are probably going to be better so I would vote for her more often. Make any sense?

Whew, I've been out of town, and you all have been busy!!

I kinda like the categories how they are, but with a big reminder and clarification about what they mean (since it seems that the purpose of best take isn't always fulfilled).

I'd also like to remind people that point and shoot pictures have won, SOOC pictures have won (mine did when my computer was broken!), and "professional" is a very very hard term to define.

I'm cool with whatever, though... although I'd rather not have more than 2 voting categories each week... that complicates things to me, and I'm all about simple. ;)

Mindy great way to say it! I agree no more than 2 catagories please. I like how they are just reminders to people what best take is for.
