Vintage Sci-fi

ISO 100, f5.6, 2sec; used curves in gimp to intensify colors.

My husband regularly tries to convince me to get rid of this stack of old science fiction paperbacks. There's just something about the smell and the feel of these old books that I find comforting, bringing back memories of long summer afternoons spent curled up on my grandparent's couch.

Hi! I'm glad we have the same camera so I can ask you questions. I just got the camera and I read the manual about the settings but I still don't feel like I'm chosing the right setting when I take pictures. The pictures aren't as clear as I want them to be. Any suggestions would be great!

Is it focusing on the right place? You can choose where the camera focuses, or you can let the camera choose (which I often do, but am not often happy with). Have you tried going to manual focus completely? There's a switch on the kit lens at least that will let you focus manually.

If it's not a focusing issue, are you using a depth of field that's too small (smaller number)? If you try a larger f-stop more of your picture will be in focus. It looks like the f-stop on the picture you subbed for this challenge is really small, so you might try a larger f-stop first.

Sorry if I'm saying things you already know--I'm
