Frankenstein the Firetruck

(50mm, f/3.5, 1/25, ISO400)
Sharpened and desaturated in Elements

I had a hard time with this challenge. There were too many things I wanted to take pictures of. I took pictures of my old boat, a canoe my dad built when he was a kid, old farmyards, fields, and old trains. Just as it was getting dark we were leaving my dad's home and as we drove past the fire station. I had to get out and take pictures of this very old firetruck.

Frankenstein, has been a member of the Mantua volunteer fire department since it was organized twenty years ago. It was one of the first fire trucks I have driven. I tried to find out what year it was built, but have no idea. I would guess in the sixties and I'm sure it is one of the oldest, still in service, fire trucks in the State. It is a tanker used to bring water to the site of a wildland fires. I've seen that big steel front bumper plow down six inch diameter trees. This is an amazing truck and though some of the other pictures I took today may have been better I love this truck so I'm posting it for you all to see.

Forgot to mention the one thing I don't like about my picture is the distracting road grater in the background. I tried many different angles and thought this one displayed the truck the best, despite the road grater in the background.

My husband and I are SO jealous that you live in Mantua! We love that area. Honestly, I didn't notice the road grater until you mentioned it, so you did well! :)

This is sooo cool, wish we could see ALL of the other ones too-- but so glad this was your winner. I love the red and your angle makes it look HUMONGOUS!! And i love that it's name is Frankenstein... cool!

GREAT shot-- and i wouldn't have ever noticed that other machine in the background either, (maybe i just figured that firetrucks have an exhaust pipe on the side of it's hood?)

What a cool sentimental subject this week! I am glad you chose this over other "better pictures"--it's got a good flair and I like the feel!

Good ol' Frankenstein! I love the scratched bumper, you can tell its probably plowed over a few trees in its days. Love the angle and the color.

Forgot to mention, I'm glad you went with this picture (although your train ones were AWESOME) because I think photography is about capturing things that make you feel. Ya know?!
