*Edit: I have a Canon Rebel XS. I have 2 lenses. I was using the 75-300 because I get better blur, but I have a 50mm (whatever the standard zoom lens is...) I was at 4.5 at 1/40a sec. 1600ISO (My house must be really dark! haha.) I tried to edit it and take out some of the yellow from my lights in my kitchen, but never really got it back to neutral. Thanks for your help!

One Last Coveted Box
Help! I am really not proud of this picture. I thought and thought about what to photograph. I have flowers and one lonely bell pepper growing in my garden, but nothing I really liked. I thought about not even posting, but I really want to learn more. Please leave CC. Is there something I could do with lighting or angle to make this shot more interesting? Oh, and my self portrait is still coming. I promise!

Hi Corynn, and WELCOME (if I haven't told you that already!). NOw, I think you did a pretty good job with getting the focus on the box and having the background blurred. What camera are you using? Do you know what your settings were? That would make it a little easier to help. Also, did you do anything in editing?
Cadance has great points. Editing can make the difference for sure.
For this box picture I might have choosen a more level shot maybe having the box turned slightly so you can get the edge and side plus the front just to make it different.
As for the pepper that would have been great. You could get down on its level and get fairly close so it fills the frame and see what kind of detail you get with the leaves of the plants or on the pepper itself.
I think this is a good picture though and who doesnt love girl scout cookies! YUMMY!
I think a less distracting background would help. Also, making the box more off-center, or lean it against something so that it's angled. Or just take the shot from a different angle instead of straight on. A color boost could help, too, to make it stand out a little more (Samoas should never just blend in). :)
All that said, I think this is a great idea for "one." I wish I had a box sitting around. I sold Girl Scout cookies for 13 years!
ps if the box were opened you could have put some out in front of it focusing on the details of those and then with the box in the background.
Oh im going to have to drive around to find a girlscout cus i want some!
WELCOME!! I agree with everyone else. I would also suggest perhaps laying a few of the actual cookies on the counter and focusing on them rather than the box.
I think your lonely bell pepper would have been perfect!
Good job! Keep them coming!
I LOVE GS cookies..... i'm impressed there are still any left over (obviously have MUCH more self control than me!!) I agree with everyone else, especially Melanie... showing a cookie or two (would drive me batty) but would look great with the textures and added umph! Great idea though!!! It's still a good picture!!
Adding to everyone's idea...how about a cookie with a BITE out of it...in focus, with the box in the background...
YUM!
Yeah...maybe the box laying down and open with the tray pulled out somewhat....? hmmm.....crumbs....lol, yummy! Good job and welcome!
I agree with pp- take the cookies out of the box! Great subject idea!
Great ideas so far! I'd take the cookies out, I like the bite idea, and maybe show only part of the box. I'm so jealous... I didn't even get ANY girl scout cookies. Yummmm...
Mindy walmart carries the GS Samoas ice cream so you can get that as a substitute. it isnt bad.
You have great taste, Corynn--Samoas are my favorite GS cookies too!
With all the good suggestions above, I think you should do a study of samoas--take a bunch of pictures, trying out all the suggestions you've received, and then post your favorites--if for no other reason than to torture us all some more with our lack of samoas!
I am so glad you joined this blog!!!
