ONE Grain of Rice

Long ago in India, there lived a raja who believed that he was wise and fair. But every year he kept nearly all of the people’s rice for himself. Then when famine came, the raja refused to share the rice, and the people went hungry. Then a village girl named Rani devises a clever plan. She does a good deed for the raja, and in return, the raja lets her choose her reward. Rani asks for just one grain of rice, doubled every day for thirty days. Through the surprising power of doubling, one grain of rice grows into more than one billion grains of rice — and Rani teaches the raja a lesson about what it truly means to be wise and fair.

Oops, I forgot to say anything about the picture.... I was surprisingly Stumped on the challenge.... so many ideas that it was overwhelming!! But I remembered this story from 4th grade and trust me, I TRIED to get the shot with my chopsticks HOLDING the one grain of rice... but being more American than Korean, my hands started cramping up and shaking like a bandit after a few minutes of trying. For the picture, I Defined and Sharpened it. Then I used the "bring on the eyes" tool to make my ONE GRAIN (on top of the chopsticks) "glow". I don't know... I'm hoping next week's "creative demi-gods" will be kinder to me.

I absolutly love your take on this mission! So unique, and a great tale to pass on. I really love the texture of the rice against the black cloth, and the metal chopsticks are an added bonus. I think this is one of my favorite so far!

I really like this photo. I like it even more because of the story. I love the angles of the chopsticks, and how the light hits them. Very original idea.
