One Busy Bee

Nikon D90, f3.2 1/2500, iso 640 (whoops! forgot to put it back down!), 50mm, cropped and edited in photoshop

I chased this bee around for a loooong time this afternoon! It's a little tricky to focus on one very busy bee, but a LOT of fun!

CLICK the picture to see it bigger... I love the detail in the flowers and bee's wings!

The last time I tried to photograph a bee, I couldn't get a good shot up close. I ended up shooting farther back and cropping it so the focus was on the bee.

I like whatever you did to the photo in editing. The colors look slightly faded, and it reminds me of travel brochures my parents used to have in the early to mid 80's. I love the blue.

Janelle, I had to crop, too! It would be awfully hard to get THAT close to a bee, and you'd need a macro lens. :)

I ran pw's seventies action at a lower opacity, along with a few other things, so that's probably what gives it that "80's travel brochure" feel... I love that description of the feeling! Thanks!

Great job! I love how you have the little be hanging there- my only CC would be the noise, but you already mentioned that with your ISO.

Mindy~ I love it! Also, I'm starting to like higher ISO's for certain shots. The extra noise gives the bokeh a great effect, so I'm glad your ISO was higher than normal! And I love the flower and the detail on the bee is just incredible!

Excellent job! ~Oh, I love the editing too. I agree that the vintage-y colors make it look really cool.

How cool is that! I love the bee. I feel like whenever I want to shoot a bird or bug it gets away from me. hehe. Beautiful.

WOW. That's pretty much all I can say...I can't believe you actually got a shot of that bee! That is serious dedication. And what beautiful flowers!!!

Sounds like a trip! What fun, and what a great picture to take away from it. I love the way the bee isn't on top.

Okay, I have to comment again. I absolutely love this photo! It's a shame you won last time, because this is a hands down favorite for me. It's actually one of my favorite photos I've seen in a really long time, by anyone anywhere. Great job again!
