This was difficult for me because my hubby's camera shy and had little time at home this challenge, but I wanted a specific pose...not that it turned out my favorite. Seriously, bedtime/just after work is NOT the time for a photo shoot!
My husband often seems to play a supporting role in our family...I have my health problems and I spend almost all my blog on my girls, but this guy really deserved a feature of his own! He supports us as a family financially, me emotionally, and the girls...well in the best ways!
I'm finding that I use my flash...a lot. BUT I feel like I can't get a focused shot without it sometimes. Help here?!?

About the flash... my best advice is to take pictures in the daytime. If there's not enough light, it's just not gonna happen! If you have a camera that you can adjust the iso, you could bump that up. The picture will have more "noise" (grain), but it works. Also have the aperture as wide as it will go.
To get a good shot without your flash, you would need to be by a window that has good sunlight. I usually find that my north facing windows get the best. Your camera will have a hard time focusing without adequate light.

Same thing around here at bedtime, my husband works long days and there always seems to be a lot of laughter instead of sleeping going on here. As for your picture I am having a hard time adjusting to no flash too, but sooner or later we will get there.
It's not BAD to use a flash...my photography teacher says you just shouldn't use the flash that's built INTO your camera...he said to use an electronic flash or external flash. Or add in more lighting...bring more lamps into the room, or something like that.

I get a lot of blur because I cant hold still very long. You can always get around that in a few ways. One use a tripod if you have one. Two you can always adjust the ISO to be lower so you dont get blur. I have seen macro shots be more blurry as well so you could try taking it off that. I only do it for a few select shots though.
Other than that the best things that worked for me is changing the shutter speed. Your camera manual will tell you how to do it, even if it is a point and shoot you can still change settings to take pictures faster. Then you can just take a lot quickly. My camera has a setting for kids which allows for more motion and taking shots that way, you could try that.

I also use a lot of flash. For some reason I get blurry pictures without it on some subjects.
