Everyday View

This is the setup we have at the top of our computer desk. It's something I see every day and I've always wanted to take a picture of it.

There are two posts here, one from me and one from my husband, Travis. We spent a lot of time with family this weekend and he took some pictures of our ADORABLE niece, Megan.



On the way home I took some pictures of AGRICULTURE. This is a cute farm outside of Blackfoot that I've wanted to take pictures of for a while but hadn't yet. So I seized the opportunity for this challenge.

Pretty Portrait

This challenge was the perfect opportunity to take more pictures of our pretty girl (as if we needed an excuse!). It was SUPER hard to pick just one to post, but this one felt the most "portraity," so this one it was. Taken with a Nikon D-40, automatic setting, no flash. CC welcome, as always.

ONE little foot

At the M24 get together yesterday, our sweet little Grace had a photoshoot with the other photographers, and I couldn't resist taking a few photos myself. This was my favorite picture from the shoot, and really--who doesn't love baby feet?

KEY's Words

I know several people have already posted pictures of piano keys, but we took this picture before we had looked at the blog. =) Also, the focus of this picture is actually on the song "The Star Spangled Banner," written by Francis Scott KEY; the piano keys are just an added KEY bonus. =)

HOT Out of the Oven

My husband works as a baker at a local bakery, and he gave me the idea of taking pictures of his HOT out of the oven baked bread for this challenge. Well, I thought it was a great idea, and just loved how the steam looked in this particular shot. =)

Man's Search for Wisdom

Both my husband and I took pictures for this challenge, and later decided that we liked this one of his best, so this one's from both of us. =)

Socrates once said that "True wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing." So, in our picture, the "Thinker" symbolizes man's unending quest for wisdom (or knowledge), and what better place to look for wisdom than from the word of God (The Book of Mormon)?

ONE pretty cool coincidence

My husband and I were playing around, taking pictures of these pennies on the floor for this challenge--ONE cent, see?-- and all of a sudden ONE little ladybug started crawling across our pile of pennies. Well, ONE little bug is good too, right? So we have ONE ladybug on ONE pile of ONE cent pieces. Cool, huh? =)

Candy Apple RED Candle

Again, my husband was the one to give me the idea for this. =) I liked how the glass looked, and how the red wax seemed to seep up from the darkness.

New Life

Above all things, Easter is a celebration of Jesus Christ's Resurrection. So, to continue in the theme of "New Life," I present this picture of a plant who has recently emerged from our frozen ground (since Rexburg has decided that Spring might, in fact, be here, and Winter finally gone).

Totally Addicted to Jane...

Austen, that is. I own 5 of her 6 novels, 4 versions of the movie Pride & Prejudice, and at least one version of each of her other novels made into movies. I've read books about her, books written in the style of her, and books based on the "craze" created by her. So, yea, it's an addiction. =)

I wish I could have taken this picture without flash and have it still been in focus. But I couldn't, so here it is taken in auto mode with flash, and then with the brightness and contrast adjusted to give it back some color and take away a little of the glare. I like this shot (even though several others turned out better technically) because I think it shows the extent of my "addiction"...

Abstract

Taking an abstract picture was a a definite challenge for me. But I appreciated that because it made me see everything in my apartment a little differently. And in the end, I think I got some pretty cool angles on some pretty ordinary things. =)

Ok, so this next one isn't my official entry, but I loved this picture so much that I couldn't help but share it!

A Prominent Feature...

...in my city's skyline is the temple. It's ever a stark, white contrast against the dark or stormy sky, and can be seen from almost anywhere in town.
(I used a Nikon D-40, automatic setting, no flash, with natural overcast lighting, then slightly cropped it.)

And I know this one is incredibly late, but I never got a chance to post for EDGE, and I really wanted to put up the picture I took. This is an example of what happens to the snow here when it melts--an edgy wavelike effect is created. (Nikon D-40, automatic setting.)

A Late Friday Feature

Many apologies for posting this Friday Feature so late! It was my husband's birthday on Friday, and so this assignment completely slipped my mind! But, better late than never, right? So, I recently found out about a University Photographics Society which posts tutorials (step-by-step instructions) on how to create different effects with Photoshop as well as how to take great pictures. (These tutorials come from teachers, as well as photography students--most of whom hope to make a career out of photography someday.) To access this great information, all you have to do is go to http://www.byui.edu/societies/photographics/, click on "Tutorials" in the upper left hand corner of the screen, and then click on whichever tutorials you'd like to view and learn more about. For example, I've already learned how to whiten eyes and teeth, eliminate acne and other blemishes, and burn edges in my photos from this site (now if only I actually owned Photoshop!). Hope this site is helpful!
